BI-ANNUAL REPORT ON THE ANALYSIS OF TARIFF NOTIFICATIONS SUBMITTED TO ICASA FOR THE PERIOD 01 JANUARY 2016 TO 30 JUNE 2017.

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa) has published a report on the analysis of tariffs submitted by Vodacom, MTN, Telkom, and Cell C from 01 January 2017 to 30 June 2017.

The report highlights the different tariff plans (prices and product offerings) which were filed and/or existed in the market during the period under review

It also provided a summary on the various initiatives that Icasa currently has underway as measures to address cost to communicate in South Africa.

“It is Icasa’s view that the publication of the report would enable consumers to make an informed choice, in terms of tariff plan preferences and/or preferred network providers based on their different offerings,” it said.

“Even though the report is retrospective, it does however serve as an important information dispensing tool, in that most plans are likely to still exist in the market beyond the period under review, thus it still does provide important insights to consumers.”

This means that recent announcements by Cell C and Vodacom that they plan to slash the cost of out-of-bundle (OOB) prices during the month of October, were not considered.
